I just installed Linux mandrake 8.2 on my Duron 1 GHz. Everythind works fine except that darned winmodem. Now, I searched the Net and found 2 driver modules for it. One is for a kernel 2.2.XX and the other for 2.4.18-6mdk. My custom kernel is 2.4.18-2?mdk. I can force load the latter with insmod --force esscom. But when I try to dial-out, the whole computer freezes. I am at my wit's end.
I would appreciate any comment on this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. I cannot afford a new modem.
