I have heard through the Exact grapevine from some pretty reliable sources that Exact is going to do the following in ES:

1) Add a screen designer product in the accounting modules
2) Expand Flexibility to the accounting modules.
3) Finalize the conversion utility, including history files.

On item 3, I understand they are working with a major Macola reseller in doing this and they are very close to having this done. On items 1 & 2, no timeline was offered.

These are all godd developments, if/when they happen. I will keep everyone posted when I hear of more.

Finally, I strongly urge all Macola users and resellers to let them know what you think of ES. In fact I actually got a call from Exact asking me what I though of ES, and I was able to provide some input :)

Thanks for the info. I suppose I can stop trying to wrap my head around the Flexibility in Accounting issue. Takes a load off, but it sure would of been a fun project.

Thanks,
Scott

An update on this:

1) They have backed off having flex/screen designer in full use in the accounting modules

2) They have committed to having the Progression to ES conversion utility ready by EPIC.

When I get my hands on it, I will give my full report :)

Scott,

What are your thoughts on a pure Flex solution to being able to write Flex apps (non-outside VB solutions) to the AR Screen.

For instance. There is a user that is currently on 7.6.200 who has a mod on the Customer screen. The mod is only a button that opens a user form that is feeding and holding Customer related data in Non-Macola tables. Sure would be a shame not to have simple abilities like that.

Hi Andy,

I'm not quite sure what you are asking for. What do you mean by "a pure Flex solution to being able to write Flex apps (non-outside VB solutions) to the AR Screen"?

If I'm not mistaken I think you are asking about the possibility of creating a "Flexibility Like" solution for Macola ES. If this is the case I have explored this issue and have considered writing just such a solution. It would probably have to be a VB Script or .Net based scripting solution that would Hook in to the Macola process.

This solution is certainly feasible, but it would certainly take a long time to implement correctly, and it would also be a huge waste of time if Exact were to change its position on the matter. If they are firm on not providing Flexibility for AR I'd say it sounds like a fun project. But I'd hate to be disappointed after all that work.
