Wondering if you can test this out for me. During the workday when it's being used, can one of you go into the sql server enterprise manager and just open the arcusfil view? It's timing out on me. However the same database that I put on another server that is not being used opens up right away.

I noticed this with other views as well, such as APCheckView. I'm thinking this is where the problem is.

oops.. my post got cut off. This could be related to the issueing of GL reports taking so long to produce? There is a bug number that macola put out in regards to this.

Views are the least ideal way to access data in SQL. View indexes were introduced in SQL 2000 introduced. This means views will (by default) have the same indexes as the base table, and the view index will change when the base table index is changed.

However, there are a number of conditions that prevent a view from being indexed by SQL i.e. it cannot contain an outer join or a union (amongst many other constraints). Because of these limitations, most views do NOT retain the same indexes as their base tables and are therefore slower to use than accessing the base table directly.

Although the ARCUSFIL and other views are familiar to Progression users and therefore tempting to use, I recommend you directly access the base table that the view is referencing e.g. cicmpy.

Which reports? If you are referring to AR and AP aging reports there are faster versions available from several resellers.

"What version of URGENT!!! are you using?

Personally I don't think I should have to purchase reports from a third party just for the sake of speed. Exact software needs to step up their game in regards to those reports.

The aging analysis took forever to run, however I had it create a table each morning using their same query to create a local table. It takes about 20 seconds to create the table and I then have a report based off of that.

I have to read up on views, since I'm not too familiar with them. I will look at the cicmpy table. Just for some reason is seems like the performance since 9.5 has gotten alot worse.

Thanks for your replies..

Agree with you on the aging reports. If customers and resellers can produce versions that run quickly and accurately, Exact should be able to as well..

The nature of the tables (gbkmut, banktransctions etc.) accentuate performance problems in SQL and there are a number of things you can configure on your SQL server that will offset the problems caused by long running queries.

They are too lengthy to go into here, but I'd be happy to forward you some suggestions.

Sure, that would be great. Anything to help the performance would be much appreciated.
