ERS5510 VLAN Tagging Question

We are trying to minimize the traffic flowing around our network and use the 5510s to perform appropriate Inter-VLAN Routing. We want everything to be tagged with a VLANID and control what goes where with the ability of the Nortels to have multiple VLANIDs carried on an "untagAll(access)" port.

Our scenario is an IBM BladeCenter with a Nortel L2/L3 Internal Switch where we have all Internal Switch Ports set to Enable VLAN Tagging, Default PVID 21, PVID Tagging Enabled which is tagging everything coming in to the switch from the blade with VLAN 21. The BladeCenter Nortel L2/L3 Switch is MLT to a Nortel 5510 where I think we should set the ports as follows:
VlanIds: 21
No Check Mark - DiscardUntaggedFrames
Check Mark - FilterUnregisteredFrames
DefaultVlanID - 21
PortPriority - 0
Tagging - untagAll(access)

In my readings, I get the impression that if any packet comes in to this port untagged (not a real issue with this scenario) that on egress the tag will be stripped. Is that true?

The above mentioned 5510 currently has a Trunk Port running over to anther 5510 which is one of our 2 core switches. I just want to makes sure that we keep the VLAN Tags until the packets get routed via Inter-VLAN routing or out through one of our Nortel 1750s to remote sites via tunnels around the globe.

Thanks,

Your message was a little hard to follow frankly, however, here is what you're to keep/trust the tag from your Nortel "internal switch" (not sure which model Nortel switch you've got..yes, it matters..not all Nortel switches treat VLANs the same way) across an MLT and some considerations.

First off, when tagging, the PVID of the access port on which originated the packet is trusted..hence as long as the port members of the MLT are port members of the VLAN needing to be trusted, and the port is tagged, it will work...the key to remember here is the PVID of that trunk port is insignificant frankly, and is ignored.
Remember to include each port in the MLT in the VLAN.

On the 5510, the "filter unregistered frames" are not relevant here...so check mark or not does not matter (only relevant to access ports).
HOWEVER, you need to click TAG ALL! These are TRUNK ports, not access ports. Since you're VLAN tagging on the internal Nortel switch, if you don't click this, it will not work, you will lose the tag and it will not forward on to your next hop switches for that VLAN.

Hope this helps.
