Hi,

Would like to create a floating static default route on the ERS 5520, but there doesn't seem to be an option of changing the preference. The switch receives a OSPF default route, but would like to create a floating static route in case the link (where the OSPF default arrives from) goes down so traffic can go out an alternative interface.

The only way I've seen that is is possible to do this is to create a route-map, and somehow redistribute the static route, but this is something I don't want to do.

Cisco multi-layer switches allow you to change the preference of static routes - seems to be way easier, but unfortunately I'm not working with Cisco switches.

ip route <Network> <Mask> <Next Hop> <1-65535>

Where <1-65535> is the cost of the static route. Just make it higher than the learnt OSPF route

Already tried that. Yes that does changes the cost of the route, but it doesn't change the administrative distance which the route table uses before cost. To change the administrative distance, I need to change the preference.

Nortel has the following default preferences:

----------------------------------------------------------
local 0 0
static 5 5
ospfIntra 20 20
ospfInter 25 25
ebgp 45 45
rip 100 100
ospfExternal1 120 120
ospfExternal2 125 125
ibgp 175 175
staticv6 5 5
ospfv3Intra 20 20
ospfv3Inter 25 25
ospfv3External1 120 120
ospfv3External2 125 125
------------------------------------------------

I need to change the preference from 5 to 125 as the OSPF route preference I get is 25.

On the 8600/1600 platform, I can change the preference, but cannot do this on the 5500 platform. Do you have any idea on how to do this on the 5500?
