Hi Kog,
do
# cd /dev
# ls -l|grep "10, 3"
and you will see what device has problem.
On all my boxes it is hd8, that is jfslog.
You have to increase its size using smitty or command
extendlv <add_lp> <disk(s>.
for example:
# extendlv hd8 1 hdisk0

Your log device is too small. Increase it (it's hd8).

I think you need to run logform on it after that.
# logform /dev/hd8

Hi Kog,
logform cammand used for existing logfile can destroy
all file system. See man logform before using it.

Hi folks

It seems I do not have any jfslog file at all? I did a complete installation of 4.3.3 last month and installed oracle, but I had thought that the rootvg automatically creates jfslog at the initial stage?

So what should I do now, create one now?

How?

Can u advice me pls

Regards

K

Hi

It is rootvg:
LV NAME TYPE LPs PPs PVs LV STATE MOUNT POINT
hd5 boot 2 2 1 closed/syncd N/A
hd6 paging 54 54 1 open/syncd N/A
hd8 jfslog 1 1 1 open/syncd N/A
hd4 jfs 2 2 1 open/syncd /
hd2 jfs 147 147 2 open/syncd /usr
hd9var jfs 1 1 1 open/syncd /var
hd3 jfs 244 244 1 open/syncd /tmp
paging00 paging 37 37 1 open/syncd N/A
paging01 paging 37 37 1 open/syncd N/A

How do I increase it?

Using smitty I know how to increase LV and FS but where does jfslog categorise under what sub menu pls?

Thanking u in advance.

K

Hi,
simply enter
#smitty lv
select "Set characteristics of a logical volume"
select "Increase the Size of a Logical volume"
press F4 to select hd8

and increase the size (by 1 should be enough)

Hi Kog,
after increising hd8 size you have to permorm
the logform operation ONLY from the maintenance shell
obtained by booting machine in Service mode from
installabke media.
Boris

Hi Boria
I do not understand what u mean by performing logform operation?

What is its purpose and is it necessary, if so why?

I am going to increase jfslog now.

Regards

K

Kog,
logform initialises the log device. If you only increase the size it won't make any differens to AIX. You have to boot up in maintance mode (I think).

Hi Kog,
logform initializes logical volume for use as jfslog.
You will increase size of present jfslog (hd8)and
therefore it must be reinitialize. But ONLY in Service Mode.
Cause is that logform must be run when all filesystems that
use corresponding jfslog unmounted. In your case jfslog is
hd8. It is used /, /usr, /var, ... and you cannot unmount some for it. In the Service Mode they are unmounted.
