I am importing from Excel using Access 2002, but the option of Data Type is inactive, whic results in importation errors. If Access would allow me to, I would change the data type from number to text and there would be no problems....

Any ideas?

Hi there,

I import from Excel all the time. If your trying to import into Access from a file created in Excel, then you should be able to open Excel in Excel and Save As "CSV" (Comma demlimited) (which imports much more cleaner than as a regular excel).

Also, make sure that your header (column headings) is the 1st line in the data, e.g. no report titles, etc. in Excel file.

Last, make sure no breaks in columns occur or errors would occur.

Hope this helps.

One solution is to insert a template first line that has the right data types. This stops Access thinking you have a number column only to find alpha characters later on in the data.

marie515,

Your solution worked for me, except I had to export as TAB delimited because my excel spreadsheet had some commas.

Thank you
