Hello all,
I am having difficulites inventorying/labeling new tapes. i have an overland robotic library with an Ibm tape drive.
Whenever I insert a new blank tape and inventory the tape it shows up as blank media. (which is correct) When a backup job runs and uses that tape, it says it is unrecognized media and puts it in the retired media set.
I then try to erase the tape and then lablel the tape (I'll call the tape Monday) it ignores the label I give and names it something like #0F69ACD9-001. I then do a quick erase on the tape and all of a sudden the label changes from #0F69ACD9-001 to Monday. If I then Inventory the tape it's label will change back to #0F69ACD9-001.
Very odd behavior. I've been on the phone with the hardware guys and they have tested the drive and robotic library outside of Backup Exec and the drive can read/write to the tapes without problem.
All my existing tapes work fine. I have tried almost a dozen new tapes and they all have trouble being recognized by Backup Exec. I thought maybe the first batch maybe bad tapes, so I have purchased the other tapes from different sources.
I am thinking it may be an issue with BE's database, but not sure how to proceed. I have restarted the server numerous times, so that is not the issue.
I am using Backup Exec 10d with SP3 on a Windows 2000 server with SP4.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.
