Hi

I use Proshow Gold and Pinnacle studio 9 for projects. All worked well until recently when I started getting messages on loading these applications for no apparent reason.

When loading Proshow Gold I get a message as follows:

"DirectDraw is malfunctioning. Graphics performance will be greatly reduced because direct screen access is not available.
This may be caused because the "Hardware Accelleration" setting is turned down in the video driver. Check the video driver settings to see if you can increase performance. Note: Use caution, as this setting may have been turned down to prevent a buggy video driver from malfunctioning"

And when I load Pinnacle studio the following message appears:

"The graphics and/or sound systems in your computer have not been certified for ude with Microsoft DirectX. This may affect proper operation of Studio 9 Quickstart.
For best results, check with the vendor of your graphics and/or sound hardware to see if an update is available"

I have a GeForce FX 5200 128mb video card and have installed the latest driver for it. I also tried a 32mb RIVA TNT card but got the same messages.

I'm running XP professional with SP2 installed and fully updated. I've also installed the latest version of DirectX.

Any advice would be graetly appreciated.

Thanks

AL

I would reinstall directx as it sounds like it has been corrupted.

Hi

Tried that. Made no difference.

Go to a command prompt and run DXDiag. This is the DirectX diagnostic tool and should be able to pinpoint any DX problems. Fixing them is a different matter but it's a good starting point.

Do the errors point to a hardware fault??

AL

Hmm, that isn't good. My guess is that it's a failure at one of three points: the display drivers, the DirectX installation or the card itself. I would try two things:

First, completely remove the nVidia drivers, re-booting afterwards, then re-install the latest driver and re-boot again. Next do a repair installation of DirectX with your virus cheker disabled and re-boot one last time (don't forget to re-enable the virus checker afterwards). You can find info on removing nVidia drivers here.

If that doesn't work I would try the card in a different computer if possible, to determine whether it's faulty.
