I have a group of HP 2950 switches at a remote location, set up in a stack. The primary switch (commander) is showing "Excessive CRC/Alignment" and "Excessive Late Collisions" on port 1. Connected to port 1 is the Cisco 2610 router that connects this remote site to our WAN. I see on the internal (Ethernet) interface on the router that there are Input and CRC errors.

Users are this remote site are complaining about slow access to everything (apps. and files on the server, access to the Internet, etc.). What could be causing these errors?

The external (serial) interface on the router is and stays clean. The other switches in the stack are pretty clean as well (little or no errors).

Could it be as simple as the cable between the router and the commander switch?

If I had a client or NIC on the network there causing extraordinary amounts of traffic, what would that look like? How can I get to the bottom of this?

I would suggest you strap the speed and duplex on the switch and the router to match, clear the counters and monitor...

BTW I'm looking at replacing some hubs on my network with HP switches and would like to know how you like yours. I'll post a toping in this thred, please let me know how you like them when you get this issue resolved...Ru55ell

The HP switches we have are great (all my Cisco's have been very dependable as well, but they do cost much more). We have standardized on HP switches for any new installations. They have a lifetime warranty and HP's support via phone is very good as well. HP's are also avaiable anytime I want to order them. The last time I ordered a couple of Cisco switch (to add to an existing site that already had Cisco in place) they were on back order for about 2 months.

Thanks for the info on your experience with Cisco and HP. Did you resolve your issue with counting errors?

No, I am still getting the errors on the switch (port 1) which relates to the router at that site. I am also getting the errors on the internal interface of the router. I am still working with someone there remotely to see what is going on. I have not attempted your suggestion yet of hard coding the speed and duplex on each end.

We have the same problem its a bug with current firmware version. TO fix it We put both devices at 100-full duplex it clears it right up.
