I have problems transfering text files from a win client to a Sco Unix server using ftp via tcp/ip. I have no message response from the ftp command.

When I tried to transfer small files, no bigger than 13k, the ftp ran sucessfully. But when the files exceed this size the ftp give no response, and the file wasn't transferred.

Do you have some idea how to solve this problem.

Most of the time that's a bad (cheap) nic card in one or both machines.

More often than not, Real-Tek. If the card you have cost less than $50.00 retail ($30.00 whsle ) then replace it. I like the 3Com 3c905's and Intel Pro100. Kingston KNE 100 also seems to be reliable.

when you ftp the file, toggle on hash. This will display a "transfer output" to your screen, so you can kindive see if the data is flowing, or hung. To toggle on hash, just type "hash" at the ftp prompt once connected to the server. You want it to say "Hash mark printing on ( XXXX bytes/hash mark).

Might also have a quota of some sort (file size restriction) on the SCO machine.

Just my two cents worth.

I recently ran into this and I can't find my notes on it, but I think I solved it bye running "custom -> software -> verify system". If I remember correctly there was a broken link/permission problem on something. This problem was very annoying because everything that you would expect to affect the ftp session was correct and I tried so many variations on things that I can't remember if it was the verification/fix that cured it.

give this a try and meanwhile i'll keep looking for my notes.
