Just recently a problem appeared; every time I insert a cd to my cd-drive or run an exe file which haven't been installed to my harddrive yet, windows reacts with the following two error messages (translated):

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: MSVCRT.DLL for Win32, Error: MSVCRT.DLL is not compatible with Win32s."

"The program was not properly initialized (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the program."

The second one has something to do with the 'Desktop Application Heap'. Haven't found any solution for the first one so, that's why I ask here.

This is what I know so far:
- The error only appears when I try to run exe files from cd or uninstalled software, not the ones already installed to my harddrive.
- Replacing the file doesn't work because Windows is using it.

Any kind of help appreciated.

Have you recently installed something that is not for Windows2000?
Installing the correct version of that application should solve the problem.

Can also try this:

1. Try starting Windows in Safe-Mode, then back in normal mode, and see if it solves the problem.

2. Check the version of this file (right-click -> Properties -> Version).

3. Try replacing this file while in safe-mode.

Found out that I had backed up all of my system files a while ago, so now problem is kinda solved or avoided...
:)

You don't have to feel bad just because you're totally worthless...
