ERROR while opening files!

I am using Photoshop 6.0.1 and Image Ready 3.0.1
Mac G4 with O.S.9.1

I am getting an error when trying to open some files. It seems to only happen with files that I use going between Photoshop and Image Ready.

When I try to open them in Photoshop, the message I get is."Could not open 'index.psd' because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

When I try to open them in Image Ready, the message I get is. "Could not complete this operation because the end of the file was reached unexpectedly."

This has happened more than once and on separate hard drives.

Any help or direction on where to look for help would be greatly appreciated.
