Error while inserting shortcuts !!

Hello everyone, I have a problem. When ever a user tries to create a shortcut from a shared folder they receive a message as follows "out of memory resources. Close some windows or programs and try again." They have nothing opened except mail and they are working on PIII 800's with 256MB of RAM. They have full permission on the share. The files are pretty down the root tree 5 or 6 sub-folders. Anyhoo anyone ever seen this? If so can you let me know what the heck is happening here.
