When I try and install the remote agent, via the tools icon in BackUpExec, I get an error saying "The RPC Server is unavailable". I successfully get to the point of enetring the username and password but then I get this error. Any ideas - I have checked the RPC services are running on the remote machine.

I had the same problem. According to Veritas' web site, the easiest - and preferred - method of installing the remote agents is to do it on the the machine you want to install it on, rather that try to push it. First, if there is an old version of BE or an old agent, it must be uninstalled first (that one hung me up for a time). Copy the RANT32 directory from the Vertas dirtectory on the media server (should be Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Agents\RANT32) to the remote server. Then open a command prompt window, navigate to teh directory and enter the command "setupaa.cmd". This is a local silent install. If it is Windos 2000 or newer, you won't even need to reboot. If NT4, you will require a reboot. The cursur will blink for a time (maybe a minute at the outside) then will advance to the next line and a fresh prompt. This being a silent install, you get no other indication of You can verify installation by opening services and seeing that the agent is installed and running.
