Hello, I'm using Visual C++ 6 and have the Quake 2 source files from id Software. My plan is to modify them, but as a first step I tried compiling the code right from the download, i.e. it should build the original quake2.exe file, etc. When I do this, I get no error (but a few warnings), and it does create the quake2.exe However, when I run this .exe, a little popup comes up with the title "Error" and the message is "Couldn't fall back to software refresh!". I'm running Windows 2000 Professional, all latest updates, Radeon 7500 w/ latest drivers. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jamie.

Do you have all the mesh/texture/dll files in the appropriate place? Try using the debugger to trace the error so you'll know where it is. You really haven't given enough information for us to know what the problem is unless we've dealt with Quake 2 before and had the same issue.
