Error when installing

I am trying to install Norton AntiVirus 2002 on my Windows 2000 Pro machine. When I start the setup program, it walks me through the initial steps (Custom Installation, Compact Installation, etc.) - I usually choose Custom - then it asks me where I want to install the software on my drive, and when I hit OK on that window, next thing I get is an error message, titled 'Fatal Error', with the following message:

'Installation ended prematurely because of an error'

That's it - nothing else.

Can anyone out there help me with this one? Thanks so much.

Go back to basics. Check the event log and the NAV install log. These should give you the information on what happened.

There is a link on Symatec's site that gives some solutions. Have you checked for viruses? Did you have NAV installed previously? Check this link out:

How can you look at the install.log if the installation did not finished ?

P.S. : I got the same error tonight, when reinstalling Norton anti-virus 2002 , after the icon in the tray disappeared!!!
