Error when importing text file into access when the file ext is not tx 1

I am trying to import a number of text files into access and my code seems to work fine, but only if the files have a .TXT extension. If they have another extension ie. 083, then it gives the error "database or object is read-only" and will not import the file.

I have tried it with the import wizard and I get the same error. Very strange... any ideas.

Thanks.. that def was the ans to my problem... I went to the KB article you refered to and I have downloaded the file... I notice though that it only talks about off97 etc etc.. I am running 2000 so I would have expected it to have these updates.

Hope installing this is not a problem for off2k
