Error when expanding additional mailbox 1

Hi,

We experience a strange problem when opening an additional mailbox in Outlook 2000, connected to a Exchange 2003.
This happens in a Terminal Server session on Windows 2003.

When a additional mailbox is accessed for the first time since it was added to the profile, and you try to expand the folderlist, the program hangs for a few seconds. This is followed by an Application Error "The memory could not be read".
In the Eventlog, an event 1000 is logged:

But, when you first click on the name of the mailbox, the name is changed from "Mailbox - Helpdesk" to "Postvak - Helpdesk" (this is the Dutch name for Mailbox).
If you expand the mailbox now, everything works just fine.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
I've tried to find this on the MS-support site, but no luck!

This is a pretty tough issue, but I am going to make a stab at it since you mentioned that you were using outlook 2000 on an exchange 2003 server. Right there is a major problem. There is a massive amount of bugs when trying to work 2000 with 2003 and microsoft no longer makes the hotfixes for them(or so I was informed when I had a memory leak issue with outlook 2000), but don't take my word on that. The best bet would be to contact microsoft on this issue and hopefully they can help you. My opinion would be to upgrade to outlook 2003. Outlook 2003 just blows 2000 out of the water, and you will no longer have to worry about these issues. The reason I say this is because I believe you may be getting more issues than just this one in the future until you do upgrade.

Sorry I could not be of more help. Your best bet is to either upgrade or talk directly to microsoft on this one.

First, thanks for your enlightning answer!
This all sounds very plausible....

Upgrading to Outlook 2003 would give us another problem.
Our network has been subject to a lot of major changes the last year, so an upgrade of the full Office-suite to 2003 means a huge "culture-shock" for our users.
Do you if it is possible to have Outlook 2003 installed next to the rest of Office on 2000?

I don't know exactly what you are asking. But, if you are asking about having some machines with 2003 and others with 2000, I am pretty sure that will work. I would definately talk to Microsoft about that. They have an excellent customer service that is very knowledgable.

On the whole issue for culture shock. I have done tech support for very large companies that have upgraded from 2000 to 2003. I don't recall seeing much if any actual culture shock to the product. The 2000 version is not very user friendly in my opinion. The new 2003 offers a much more uer friendly atmosphere. I would perhaps see if there is a trial version you can obtain and use to get a feel of the program yourself. I do completely understand why you thnk there will be culture shock. This is a very true statement in most all upgrades.

I would talk to microsoft about this. The are very helpful and have worked very hard for me in the past when I have had issues with there products and questions about upgrades. Best of luck to you. I wish I could have been more helpful.
