I have a W2K8R2 domain and, starting yesterday, when editing any GPO on my Win7 PC I get the error:
Administrative Templates. Encountered an error while parsing. An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\domain.local\SysVo...\AppxPackageManager.admx (error = 2): The system cannot find the file specified.
It produces the error multiple times with the text change slightly specific to the file eg
Administrative Templates. Encountered an error while parsing. An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\domain.local\SysVol\doma...\AppXRuntime.admx (error = 2): The system cannot find the file specified.
This started yesterday. I went to copy some new .admx files into the folder and when it prompted me if I wanted to overwrite a file I cancelled it so nothing actually changed. But from then on I get this error. I also get the error when editing the GPOs from the W2K8R2 DC. I am able to edit the GPO and the change do work.

These files do exist in \\domain.local\SYSVOL\domain.local\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\. I have seen some suggestions that the files should be in a subfolder \en-us\ so I've copied them all there too (as well as leave them in the \PolicyDefinitions\ folder but this has made no difference.

I don't see why this has all of a sudden become an issue. Nothing actually changed.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

UPDATE: When viewing the 'Settings' tab in GPMC it shows

An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\server.domain.local\sysvol\domain.local\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\wwansvc.admx (error = 2): The system cannot find the file specified.

For example, the AppxPackageManager.admx does not have an equivalent .adml file. Neither does the AppXRuntime.admx or the AuditSettings.admx or most of the others. Is this the problem? Those files have never been there nor can I find anywhere to download them.

There is also a slightly different error in:
Code:
An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\server.domain.local\sysvol\domain.local\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\hotspotauth.admx (error = 2): The system cannot find the file specified.
Resource '$(string.CbacAndArmor)' referenced in attribute displayName could not be found. File \\server.domain.local\sysvol\domain.local\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\kdc.admx, line 39, column 284
and there are hotspotauth.admx and hotspotauth.adml files but there is only a kdc.admx and not a kdc.adml file.

As previously stated, GPOs do work and I can edit them (after clicking through all the errors) and the changes take effect. But why has this started all of a suddent and how do I resolve it?

UPDATE: I found that .adml should be in the \en-us\ subfolder and although they were they were also in the PolicyDefinitions folder so I removed them. I doubt this will do anything but did it anyway.

I have found that if I delete the eg AppxPackageManager.admx file from the \PolicyDefinitions\ folder the error:
Code:
An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\server.domain.local\sysvol\domain.local\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\AppxPackageManager.admx (error = 2): The system cannot find the file specified.
no longer appears. When I put the file back in, the error returns.

Having read this KB article it says
In order to generate reports or edit the GPO the .admx file needs to be loaded aswell as the appropriate .adml language file
which explains why the errors are generated for .admx files that don't have corresponding .adml files. That article was for Vista/2008 (not Win7/2008R2) and the link to download supplies both .admx and .adml files but AppxPackageManager.adml is not one. The download for Win7/2008R2 only supplies .admx and not .adml and I can't find this AppxPackageManager.adml file anywhere (nor any of the other missing .adml files) which, it appears, would resolve the issue if they were in the \en-us\ folder.

So there's a couple of questions:
[ol 1]
[li]How do I get rid of this error? It appears putting .adml files in the \en-us\ folder is one solution but the files don't appear to exist so how else can it be resolved?[/li]
[li]Why did this happen in the first place after working perfectly fine without these files?[/li]
[/ol]
