Has anyone else run into this? I have a new customer with a BCM 50 that they purchased and installed themselves. They contacted me because they wanted some keycodes generated and installed in the system. I registered the system ID with KRS,
but when I enter the system ID to generate a keycode it comes back with this error. Error validating the system/site that you have selected. The system is not active. The system has some keycodes in it currently so it was active at one time. I am not sure whether to wash my hands of the whole thing or try and persue it with Nortel. I told my customer he should probably contact the people he purchased it from and see if he could get some history on the system.

My guess is that you are trying to register keycodes generated from a BCM 50 Version 1 or 2 with a Version 3 hard disk image?.

You will need to have another keycode to allow for an upgrade to Version 3.

I found this out when I changed out my own test BCM 50 Version 2 hard disk with a Version 3 one that I had imaged from another system by using the Acronis program.

The strange thing was that I was OK when using a Version 2 image from my original BCM 50 Version 1 keycodes, but not when using the Version 3.

I've recently added in some FAQ's on disk imaging.

Having read your message again, I'm wondering if your friends BCM 50 site ID licences was transferred to another system ID due to e.g. a system, motherboard or disk failure etc?. If this is correct, then your friends system should have been returned back to Nortel as it can no longer be used anymore.

All the best

I believe you are probably right with your second guess.
I haven't heard back from the customer since I told him he needed to contact the individual he purchased the system from.
