Error using Oracle OCI driver with Weblogic 6.1

Hi,
I am using the oracle oci driver to create a connection pool in weblogic 6.1 on Solaris. The error i am getting when i start up the server is
java.sql.Exception : connection closed.

I have checked and the databse is running and I am able to connect to the Oracle Database via sql-plus.
Any pointers on what could be causing this
