Error using IO.Ports.SerialPort VB .NET 2005

I am currently writing a program that communicates with a panel meter via RS485 communication. I am using a USB to RS485 converter but seem to be having a random error at different times in my program. These random times are when I am trying to access this com port using IO.Ports.SerialPort.

The error is "UnauthorizedAccessExceptio was unhandled" "Access to the port is denied"

I read another post on this and the answer did not give a solution except to use a non usb com port. I am kind of stuck and need this converter to work. Any Advice would be helpful.

You will likely need to post your code ( or at least, the relevent parts ) and point out what line generates the error before we can help.
