Acrobat 5.0
Quark 4.11

I just upgraded our Adobe Acrobat version from version 4.0 to 5.0. I can no longer print from Quark 4.11 to a PostScript file. I am using the distiller driver. Every time I hit save the Quark program bombsout with an error type 11. I never had the problem befor I upgraded. Also what is strange is I uninstalled Acrobat 5.0(I think I removed all the files!!??) and reinstalled Acrobat 4.0 and now that version is doing the same thing. Nothin else changed. It worked, I did the upgrade than it didn't all within an hour. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

deejay33,

The situation you described sounds like a problem with mis-matched printer/driver files. I'm not up to date with the Mac OS so I copied the following from Adobe.com( which might help you. The following applies only if you're printing to a postscript printer:

------------------------------------------------------------
Solution 3
If you print to a PostScript printer, use the correct PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file, or use a generic PPD file. To set up the AdobePS 8.6 or later printer driver or the Apple LaserWriter 8.x printer driver to use a Generic PPD file:

Note: Adobe recommends that you use AdobePS 8.6 or later printer driver for Acrobat v4.x and AdobePS 8.7.2 or later for Acrobat v5.0.

1. Open the Chooser from the Apple menu.
2. In the Chooser window, select the AdobePS or the LaserWriter 8.x icon.
3. Select the target printer in the right-hand window.
4. Click Setup or Create.
5. In the Setup dialog box, click Select PPD.
6. In the Select A PostScript Printer Description File dialog box, click Use Generic.
7. In the Setup dialog box, click OK.
------------------------------------------------------------

If the above is not at all helpful or applicable to your situation, then my only other suggestion is to troubleshoot your printer extensions and/or control panels, and check your PPDs to see if you have both Acrobat v4 and v5 versions installed.

Below is a link to a fairly detailed explanation on Adobe.com of how to delete Acrobat v5 from Mac OS 9.x(I realize you have OS 8.6 but it should be close enough to work for Acrobat v4 and v5 installations on OS 8.6). You might want to try this and then try re-installing Acrobat 5.0. The rationale here being that if you totally wipe all remnants of Acrobat off your machine, install a fresh copy of Acrobat v5, and still have the problem, then maybe Acrobat v5 isn't the problem, it may be that Quark needs a patch/update or something to work with Acrobat v5...:

Good Luck!
