Hey guys,

Fairly new to Exchange, so be gentle with tips please. Here is my dilemma... We have an Exchange 2007 setup for our companies enterprise email, and for shared data. A couple weeks ago I noticed that when I (or anyone else in the comapny for that matter) attempted to access any shared folders, caledar or contacts, we get the following on the screen: "Cannot display the folder. Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange". Of course, there are no network problems, and we are all connected to Exchange just fine as far as I know. After doing some intense Googling, I found nothing really to help me. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, we need our shared stuff back. Thanks!

Hi there

First thing to look at is to check that your puplic folder db is mounted.

Open the EMC expand server configuration and go to mailbox. In the status column check that the db is mounted. If it isn't, right click on the db and select mount.

I hope that is all it is, if not do you have a full backup of the db?

The database is indeed mounted. I do have a full backup of the db, but how will that help me?

The weird thing is this was working a couple weeks ago. I didnt notice any significant changes that may have affected it since then. I do have some errors/warning in Event Viewer that may give some clues to somebody...

1) Event ID: 9186 (warning occurs every 15 minutes)
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant has detected that the local computer is not a member of group '/dc=com/dc=ourcompanydc/ou=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/cn=Exchange Servers'. System Attendant is going to add the local computer into the group.

2) Event ID: 8207 (error occurs approximately every hour)
Error updating public folder with free/busy information on virtual machine ARTHUR. The error number is 0x80004005.

Exchange seems to still be working good, no other problems that I ahve noticed besides our shared calendars and contacts. Thanks guys, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Charlie, but I have been there and done that... I don't believe those events in the event viewer have anything to do with the shared data being lost, as they have been occuring long before we have had this problem I am dealing with today, but I guess I could be wrong. Any more suggestions would be extremely helpful on getting my shared data back in Outlook.

Have you tried to connect to Public Folders using PFDAVAdmin Tool. Just copy in any DC, and see if you can access Public Folders, and look for any problems with security rights there.
