Hi,

I am trying to increase the size for a striped LV. I have enough in the volume group but when I tried to increase the size of the file system on this LV I get the following error:

0516-1034 extendlv: Not enough physical partitions in physical volume vpath7.
0516-788 extendlv: Unable to extend logical volume.

I am using AIX 5.1 and shark.

Is it not possible to increase the size for Striped LV? I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

When you say increase the size for a striped logical volume, you mean the size of the logical volume, not the size of the stripe, right? You can do that as long as you have enough physical partitions on the disks where the logical volume is. If you don't have enough partitions on all the disks, I think you have to add which disks you want to use, but I also don't think that is a good way to do it.

Can you post the results of lslv -l lvname and the command you used to extend the logical volume?

Thanks for your answer.

Yes I mean the size of the LV.

I am using smit to change the file system size.

Now, can you show the output of lspv vpath7? Check for Free PPs in the output and compare that to the number of partitions you are trying to increase by.

vpath1, vpath5, vpath7, vpath12, vpath13, vpath14 have only one free pp. The others vpath have between 20 and 47 free pps. When I am trying to increase the fs size I can not specify which vpath to use, so I do not know what I have to do.

This is the output for lspv vpath7:

ax-ohp-db01:/home/vinasb > lspv vpath7
PHYSICAL VOLUME: vpath7 VOLUME GROUP: prod
PV IDENTIFIER: 002680ba2e253357 VG IDENTIFIER 002680ba00004c00000000f2323e6817

USED PPs: 92 (94208 megabytes)
FREE DISTRIBUTION: 00..00..00..00..01

I think you are only going to be able to increase this striped logical volume by only one physical partition per disk because that is all that vpath1, vpath5, vpath7, vpath12, vpath13, and vpath14 have free. So it looks like you can increase the logical volume by 17 GB (1 physical partition = 1024 MB X the number of disks in the logical volume).

Hi bi,

Thanks four your answer. I think you are right. I only can increase the logical volume by 17GB. Thanks. Bye.
