Error trying to add tape drive to AIX 4.3.3

I get an error "0514-043 error getting or assigning a minor number" When trying to add an external tape drive on SCSI ID 5. The drive comes up in Smit tape as defined. Any suggestions? James Collins

Hi,

Some problem in ODM.

I would suggest to "rmdev -dl" all existing rmts,then try again.

If this will not help - we can try removing any resudies of any rmts from ODM manualy later on,but it's quite a "dirty" job "Long live king Moshiach !"

If it's an autochanger-type device, like a 7332 or a 3590, he might need to install Atape.
