Error - There isn't enough memory to update display....Access 97

Every time I get going into anything in Access where I've made numerous previous saves, I get this error:

There isn't enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again.

What makes this interesting is that the only thing I have running in the open is Outlook. I have a bunch of garbage in the background but that's not too much. Plus I have 256megs of RAM. How is it possible that running a stand-alone database will drop me this error...especially when it is as less involved as Access is(size wise).
