Error saving file on network

I am using Autocad 2000i and am unable to save a drawing on a network drive. I get the message:

Unable to save to drawing
Drawing saved to save.ac$

Many Autocad 2000i users in my office get the same error, but some are able to save. Any help is appreciated.

Sometimes this happens when a network connection is interrupted or is too slow to complete the save. The only cure that we have is to do a save as (usually locally) and then overwrite the network version later.
