hi everyone! i am very new in solaris. i would like to ask your help. in our other unix boxes, i have configured sendmail and our system sends error reports to my e-mail everytime it encounters one. Can i implement the same thing with solaris? do you have sample scripts that i can see?

Thank you so much!

You could do something like I suggested in this thread: thread80-505808 Annihilannic.

thanks for the reply...

how do you configure sendmail in solaris? in my configuration with other unix variants, i only added the name of our mailserver on the "Smart relay" part and save the file. after which i checked if the server is connecting to port 25. I also edited the /etc/hosts file. Is it the same with solaris or do i need to know other procedures to configure sendmail.

Thank you in advance for the response. I appreciate it so much.

If you have a 'smart' mailhost all you need to do is put its IP address in /etc/hosts and move the "mailhost" host alias to the same line. Annihilannic.

If you want something more elaborate you might checkout

This is a program that is run from a cron job and checks the specified logs periodically. The thing I like about it is that because most error go to the syslog, It picks up most ALL errors. Not just for configured applications. It does take a little tuning but I really like it. And best of all its GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE as in FREE
