Hiya,
Here's a really obscure problem. We get the error message:-

ERROR: Rename of temporary member for WORK.CLAIM.DATA failed.

on a semi-regular basis when running a job in batch on Unix. We've got an outstanding call with SAS, but they've not come up with anything constructive so far. Possible causes we've eliminated are

Using mixed versions of the SAS engine - We're purely using 8.2 as this is a work library.

Using Novell Netware version x.y - It's purely on the Unix box, so shouldn't be that.

This job only seems to fail outside of hours, if it's run during the normal working day, it seems to run fine. It doesn't always fail out of hours though. this tells us that it isn't a file size limit as that is constant, we also know that the disk itself isn't filling up as this is monitored and there are no issues recorded for the time when the error occured.

Has anyone else seen this problem, more to the point, has anyone managed to SOLVE this problem?

Any help, as always is gratefully received.

Well, just to let people know, we've solved the problem I submitted above. It turned out that there is a job that runs at midnight each night to clean up the temporary SAS area of files from dead SAS sessions, but there was an error in the code that was deleting everything whether it was active or not, so the error message above was being generated as a result of the dataset being deleted part way through processing.

Cheers.
