Hi guys,
I'm having an issue whereby a user cannot start MS Outlook - unless they have admin rights.

When the user tries to open Outlook an error box appears advising "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook" - nothing more than that. If I give the user admin rights on the domain - it starts no problem.
I've give the user the rights, then logged off, removed the rights, then tried again only to find the problem reoccurring.
Driving me up the wall a bit :-s

It did work fine until a few days ago. Happens on all PCs.

Any ideas?

You did not state if this was on an Exchange Server or not.

I assume that it is....Look at permissions on this server.

A change must have occurred.

Sorry, yes, the mailboxes are held on an exchange server (5.5), version of outlook is 2000. Workstations are a variety of NT, 2k and XP machines.

Even if a change had occurred on the server that should not be a reason for Outlook not to open. A message advising could not open the mailbox yes, but they would still be able to access personal folders within outlook, etc.

If I give the user admin rights on the domain - it starts no problem.
I was referring to your atatement above.

Log as admin, check where the mailbox resides...then check permissions of that location.

Many times the mailbox& personal folders are located on the server in their user dir/folder. As when full rights are granted via admin privilages, you can log/use the program I suspect that there is a permission problem. Either to the mailbox or the app.

I finally figured it out...it seems that an admin is required to setup a mailbox on said machine first (otherwise Control Panel "Mail" doesn't seem to exist!).

That was a right pain...

Cheers for all the help!
