Hi
Anyone that knows what this message means: "Can`t fetch old volume"
This massage appers on my backupserver running on NT4 and Networker 6.02 , tape liberary running on HPUX storage node.
The backup is running as normal, and seems to be allright.
Please help.

I had the same problem today. It occurs at inventory and reset of the tape library.

It seems that a check of the media DB could help.
A nsrim -X from the command line was helpfull.

Perhaps followed by an inventory of the tape library.

Hi thanks
That is correct, i have sorted this out.
But i had to run the nsrck -L3.
This command is normally run after every backup, but
this command looks like it`s been interupted sometimes, i was recomended to upgrade to 6.1.1
I will do that shortly.

Thanks Again.

An additional tip to clear media db confusion from our supporter. They say it is original from Legato and called "controlled corruption":

Here are the instructions
************************

1) Preparation
a. confirm that you have a good and current backup of your bootstrap. you can check it using mminfo -B.
b. Run mminfo to write the records into readable format. For example:
# mminfo > file
c. make a copy of mm directory into mm.old.

2) Media database compression:
a. Shut down the NetWorker daemons.
b. Remove /nsr/mm/cmprssd.
c. Restart the daemons.

3) Media database scavenging: (controlled corruption)
a. Shut down the daemons.
b. Cause a "controlled corruption" by removing
/nsr/mm/mmvolume6/{*_i*,ss,vol}.
The only file you should see in the mmvolume directory when done are:
ss.0, client.0, clients, vol.0, VolHdr ==> client.0 and clients are for 6.x only
c. Restart the daemons.

4) Run the following command:
# nsrck -F

5) When step 4 complete, run:
# nsrim -X
