Hi there. I am having a total nightmare.

I'm building a small lan (40 wkstns and a 2k3srv) and have been handed the mcafee active vurusscan defense v8.5 box. Interestingly enough, I have no idea about this and the documentation seems very long winded and slightly complicated.

I've got as far as installing epolicy orchestrator on the server and have just managed to install the agent on a test client. I'm trying to install virusscan enterprise 8.5 into the repositry. I've zipped the contents of the entire directory but each time I try and add this to the master repositry I get the error message 'Error, package is corrupt'. I've googled this and there doesn't seem to be anybody out there having the same problem.

Has anybody got any advice they could give me as to why this would be happening?

Thanks very very much in advance.

You may have covered this. When you download the package from McAfee, they are zipped. So, you'd need to unzip them into a temp folder on the server or the PC you have the console running. Then you'd need to check in the package into the Master Repository. At which point, you'd probably need to replicate the package to a Distributed Repository, if you have one setup.
Did you check in a NAP package or just Check in Package?

One other thing, when you unzipped the contents to the temp folder, there should be a readme file, it should state how to check in package using ePolicy Orchestrator.

I've tried what u suggested. I've tried checking .zip .z and .nap. I've looked at the readme file and it talks about adding 2 x .nap files but I still get the same error message. I was under the impression that with epo 4 you needed to check in zip files but I'm probably wrong.

If you can think of anything else, I'd really appreciate it. Unfortunately I have to leave the office now but will be back Monday morning to try and crack on further. Thanks for you help with this and like I say, if you can think of anything else that would be great.

ps The machine is a DC...this doesn't make any difference does it?

One other thing, when I spoke to McAfee a few weeks back, he mentioned that if you use XP / 2003, you can use the Windows tool to unzip / zip files or folders. He does not recommend using Windows tool, as sometimes it'd say it's corrupted.
Try using WinRAR or Winzip if you haven't already.

Hi Molenski and vampirej

In EPO 4.0, you check in the full ZIP package, whereas in EPO 3.6.1, you unzip and browse to the unzipped folder and find the pkgcatlog.z file

Also, you may want to check the ZIP package, as windows has its own way of handling ZIP files. Therefore, right click on the ZIP file before extracting and confirm if you see a "Unblock" button. If you do, select the Unblock > Apply > OK

Now try to extract and check in, if EPO 3.6.1

Or check in full ZIP, if EPO 4.0

Let me know how you get on.

Hi there McAfeeGeek. Cheers for getting back and apologies for my reply taking so long. Will try what you suggest and see how we get on. At the moment, we are having a bit of a nightmare installing Epo on our 2k3 DC which has Symantec BackupExec 12.5 on it; there seems to be some sort of database conflict. I've noticed that McAfee 'supports' but doesn't recommend Epo sitting on a DC so we are building a second 2k3 member server and will see how we get on with that. I'll let you know if your solution helps us out...in the meantime, fingers crossed!

Thanks a again and I'll be in touch!
