Error opening project file

I am receiving the following error when trying to open a 2007 project schedule I created last week. I can open other schedules stored in the same directory.

"Project cannot recognize this file format"

I have edited the file earlier this week without issue. Nothing has changed on my system. Any thoughts to recover?
