Error Opening OUTLOOK Express Messages

Problem:
"Open Error" appears when i try to open any of my inbox messages.

Believe this is attributred to a password issue we had.
(see below)

Version
Outlook express (ver 6?) that shipped with MS-IE 5.5
NOTE: Setup to share the data file with Outlook 2000.

Note
1) We had password protection on the PST file.
2) PWD was forgotton, so we used a utiity from passware.com
to recover the pwd.
3) we can now open the PST and see all folders, retrieve email but we can not OPEN the messages. Nor can we forward.
4) We can perform the SAVE AS function, and we can
PREVIEW the message, then copy and paste the text.
5) The Outlook 2000 application now functions ok.
