Anybody else had this error? After entering the IP address/username/password and browsing for the keycode file during the CD upgrade, we have encountered an error - 'error opening FTP server'. Even though I can login to the BCM and manually turn on the FTP server (net start msftpsvc) and stop it. We have rebooted the BCM and get the same error. I also tried starting the FTP server from the command prompt and then attempting the upgrade without luck. Also, verified that from the laptop running the CD upgrade, we are able to FTP to the BCM. This has happened on 2 different BCM 3.6 machines and 2 different laptops. Any information would be helpful as we are in the process of a large upgrade project and need to figure out what these errors are. Thanks....

The CD tries to start the FTP server so that it can transfer the pre-check files to the BCM. Although, since it cannot start the FTP server we get the error before the pre-check can even start to run.

Try Nortels site. I believe there is a patch for this.

ok, found an FTP default patch. Also, you need to have at least 1.9 gig of space free on the E:\. found if you go to E:\nortel networks\logs\mtt logs and delete the directory (del *.*) that seems to clear up around 200 meg and is usually enough to put you over the 1.9 gig. Also, the patch clears up a couple hundred meg.

Just thought I'd share my findings!!!

patch #BCM_360[1].216_OS.50.002. I have to warn you, it did not fix the issue we were having. Further discussion with Nortel says we need to run the validation tool which can be downloaded from their site and that should tell us if we are going to have this issue. At that point, the hard drive(s) need to be re-imaged or replaced. So, bottom line I am getting is there is no 'fix' for this issue other than reloading the drive.
