error on printer display

Hi,

I have a HP LaserJet 8150n with a JetDirect 615N card in it.

It has been working fine for years and then suddenly in the last week it keeps on showing the following error on its display panel:

81.0180
EI0 1 ERROR

To workaround the problem we have been turning the printer off then on again but a short while later the error appears again. When this error occurs, the printer goes offline and so therefore drops off the network and out of the Chooser.

I'm guessing this maybe a problem with the JetDirect card. Does anybody have any experience of the error ?

Yes, an EIO error is related to the jetdirect card. Could also be a faulty patch cable, hub/switch, etc.
I would start by removing the Jetdirect card and then putting it back in. Sometimes the connections get dirty or loose.

615n cards are known to not stand the test of time.... I would go external or upgrade with at 620....

HP does have a known issue with the JetDirect 615N's and if the serial number falls within the effected range, they will replace these at no charge. Do a search for my other posts, as I posted the 615N serial numbers elsewhere. After all, if HP is going to replace it with a 620N, I'd say that's a good deal.
