If you hit enter, you should get your login prompt OK. It might be a bit irritating having the messages scrolling by, but it's never bothered me enough to look into stopping them. ( Obviously, they stop appearing once you've logged in :) .)

That's CDE trying to start up when your system console is a terminal. You can theoretically keep it from showing up: "smitty -> System Environments -> Change System User Interface" but that's never worked for me for some reason.

Remove the line for rc.dt from /etc/inittab. That won't take effect immediately, you can either reboot, or track down the processes that are trying to start (start with dtlogin, I don't know if it's got any parent processes that'll need killing either). I've slept since the last time I fiddled with this, so I can only point you in a direction.

It is CDE that attempted to start. Chap is correct in changing the environment. There are three options or use the command without smit as given below:

AIX CDE 1.0
AIX CDE 1.0 (without graphical boot)
Command Line

/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig '-e' (CDE)
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig 'enograph' (CDE w/o graphics)
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig '-d' (command line)

Changes won't take effect until reboot, as stated.

Thanks To everybody ... now it's working properly...
