Hi All,

I'm trying to connect to a catalog from a windows 2000 advanced server with
Impromptu User and get the error:

Error number -53:
DMS-E-YV_SGINOLIB, Unable to locate the gateway 'msdbaL.DLL'.

I have tried re-installing impromptu and have checked to ensure the .dll file is on the machine

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

What is the database you are trying to connect to ?

Thisi is a oledb connection problem rather than impromptu. sounds like you need to install/re-install mdac Gary Parker

Below is from the Cognos Knowledgebase. Hope it helps.

DMS-E-YV_SGINOLIB, Unable to locate the gateway 'msdbaL.DLL'.

Solution:

This error may be caused by trying to connect natively to an MS SQL Server database through Impromptu, and not having the MS SQL Server client software installed.

If you are connecting to MS SQLServer using ODBC, you do not have to have the client software installed. However, you do have to create this database definition under the ODBC header in the Databases dialog box. Otherwise, if you try to create the database definition under "Microsoft SQL Server", Impromptu will "think" you are trying to connect natively, and because you do not have the client software installed, you will receive the above error.
