Error MSPST MS

my exchange server went down unfortunately i did not have a full backup but the hard drive that the exchange server was on was able to get out files the priv.edb and pub.edb i have restore exchange server on another machine by reinstalling 5.5 and copying the ebd files i see my users folders with mail they had but cannot access it everytime i create the same user name for the email box exchange creates a whole new folder i tried exmerge but it get a error creating message server (mspst ms) i want to know if i can copy the SAM from the old server and restore to the new server. my old server still run NT but it's not stable but i still have all the user information thanks

Have you researched the exact error with MS?
Can you log on to the old server with any users?
If you can, export to a PST then map it to new user.
i'll likely need more details for proper answers.
