running Premiere 6.5, Pinnacle Pro-One 2.1, Windows XP

program has run smoothly for a couple of years.

However, after changing data rate, frame rate, and compressor mode to match imported .MOV files, Premiere fails to launch.

program goes thru entire load sequence, up to point where you normally select NTSC-type of program. Then standard Windows error message pops up:
"Adobe Premiere has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Have reinstalled Pinnacle and Premiere in correct sequence. Error persists.

At a loss what to do next.

Anyone have a suggestion, please?????

Thanks.

Steve

Have to guess, so may be wrong, but...

P6.5 is quite old now. If you have updated Quick Time, there is a possibility that later QT versions are not fully compatible if you have a problem with .MOV files.

Thanks for replying, Akribie,

But I no longer care about the .MOV files. Just want to get Premiere itself to run. It won't load at all now. Any suggestions.

6.5 maybe old but it does all that I need it to do.

Start P6.5 with CTRL+SHIFT until the splash screen appears. This will reinstate the factory settings for the Preferences. Then set your scratch disks and other settings before starting to edit again.

Thanks a million, Akribie,

That fixed the problem completely. Actually, I had to do it twice. Seems it's important to CTRL+SHFT from BEFORE you click the Premiere icon or it won't reset. 2nd time when I did that it worked like a charm.

This is exactly the kind of tech info that Adobe should published somewhere but isn't.

I think you'll find it in the ReadMe file for resetting the preferences file.

Glad it worked!
