I work at a company that is using access 2002 that creates and updates 2000 databases by default. Recently IT desided to upgrade to office 2003 but we are still using access 2002. Now we are getting error messages when appending data to linked tables using sql statements in vba. Could there be something that changed with VBA in office 2003 that is not working now? Any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of that could cause a problem specific to a version is if someone converted the data MDB to 2003 format. It will likely say something about the database being corrupt. Open it and see what options you have for converting it (Tools, Database Utilities, Convert Database). Hoepfully "To Access 2000 File format..." is greyed out. If not you can convert it back. Also try compacting and repairing the database in Access 2003.

Otherwise post the error number and code and line of code the error occurs on if not the whole procedure.

I will look into coverting thing to see what version it is. Also I will check to see if compacting and repairing in access 2003 will work.

The error I get isn't like a runtime error that bring you to a specific line, it just says "Microsoft Access has encoutered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" There is a check box that is on by default that says "Repair my open database and restart Microsoft Access" the only button available is close.

I checked on the coverting and the option for access 2000 IS grayed out. Do you think if I just converted to 2002 would help this problem? There is no computers around here that have access 2000 anymore anyway.

No.

Now I think your file is corrupt. You should make a copy of it and try a compact and repair. You might try finding Jetcomp.exe (I never remember which download has it) and using it to compact and repair if the native function doesn't work. Next you would consider your most recent backup or data recovery service from the original copy.

I just figured out that it works fine on a machine that didn't get upgraded to office 2003. Do you still think it's the file?

Compact and repair on the machine it works. I am assuming it is a networked database. Then try Access 2003 again.

If not, is Access 2003 fully patched? Try uninstalling Access from a broken machine and installing directly from the CD. I am betting they used some sort of script to update. It would be unlikely but possible that the installation was corrupt. If this works, they need to fix the office installs across the network.

PSA: Don't shoot the messenger. [Smile]

I figured out the problems incase anyone else has this issue. There are security warnings that prevent the database from being opened when I open the database directly from explorer vs clicking file and open from access.

The other error messages were a corruption in the specific buttons that the error would occur when clicked. I simply recreated the buttons and pasted the code in the new buttons and it works fine now.
