About a month ago, my friend was viewing an image file on a cd. He =thinks= it was an Illustrator file. File was named "simply basics".

Then he ejected the disk without dragging it to the trash. He said he just held the eject button down on the cd drive.

Then the mac (dual proc g4, 450) froze & he had to force a reboot.

Now, months later, when he opens various apps like word, excel, power point, illustrator, he gets a message: "please insert disk =simply basics=". He presses OK & the message goes away then comes right back, over & over about 10 times. Then it goes away & the app continues to load successfully. Again, this message appears just as he launches an application.

He has only 1 folder on his disk named "simply basics". It is a folder he created to store customer files.

Please help.

Mike

You cant simply eject disks on a mac.
because macs mount disks automatically when they are inserted, you will have noticed the CD icon on the desktop. this is because the disk is in use.
If you eject the disk improperly the system still retains the fact that the disk is in use and remembers this.
what you should have done is to drag the disk to the trash, this is the correct way to eject disks. this indicates to the system that you are finished with the disk.
The system then writes important info to the disk and then ejects it. the icon will then dissapear from the desktop.
This also applies to floppy disks

sorry hit the 'submit' button too early.

have you tried creating a new disk named the same as "Simply Basics". and inserted it into the CD bay then eject correctly.
if not norton disk doctor may be able to fix the problem
