Here's what happened. My computer contracted the W32.Welchia.worm. I cleaned it off the computer and lost all communication to my network. However the computer could still connect to the Internet via the same network devices that would see the rest of the network. So I reinstalled Windows XP Professional on top of the existing (and same version) that was already there. My hard drive was divided accordingly: [C: - 4.0 GIG] [D: - 96.0 GIG] [E: - 100 GIG]. Now when trying to access the E:\ drive I receive an error message "D:\ not accessible. The semaphore timoeout period has expired."

Here's the problem. I can still access the C Drive and the E Drive just not the D Drive. I need the information off of the D Drive. How can I get to the information on the D Drive with out formatting the drive?

A Google search points this error to networking problems. What does the disk manager say about this partition? Or the space on the drive?
What I am thinking is Windows thinks this is a network drive for some reason.

This message is a finalized answer to the problem. As with all issues I have, I try to share them with professionals in the field.

I removed the drive from the machine. Changed the jumper setting to SLAVE. Reinstalled the drive in another working machine daisy chained to an existing and working MASTER drive. The OS on that system recognized the partitions and files that I feared were lost. Just for grins I went back to the drive to look at the windows folder and got a message stating that folder was corrupt. I was able to save all files on the HDD to a new HDD and then formatted the drive once all transfers were complete.

Good luck to anyone else that experiences this problem.
