Backup exec (8.6 rev 3878) on NT server.....tape backs up the correct nbr of files and their sizes, however there is a message in the log that says:

ERROR: THE OPEN FILE OPTION DOES NOT CURRENTLY SUPPORT THE ABILITY TO FOLLOW MOUNT POINTS.

This msg started late last week.....though, the backup job nor the os info had been changed, so I don't know what the problem is. Can someone tell me what this error means and if this will cause the backup to 'Fail'?

Thanks

that error is OK - it is just telling you that the open file option can't do a snapshot over a junction point.

I think junction points, as those partitions with a drive letter you have setup to be a directory on another drive (does that make sense?)

It won't cause the backup to fail, its just warning you it won't do it.

Thanks for the info, but I still wonder what causes the job to be tagged as 'FAILED'. I do see the correct nbr of bytes/files has been backupped, but the last line in the job log says it failed.

So, I'm not sure what I am looking for then....

There's an error so the job reports FAILED. If BE skips a file it reports FAILED.

FAILED seems to be designed as a flag to get your attention that you should review the job history for that job.

Sorry that error will cause the backup to label itself as failed - though if that is the only error message, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

You can "fix" this by doing one of 2 things..

1. Delect the junction point from the backup selections
or
2. In the windows2000 tab, uncheck, follow junction points.

Thanks alot guys. I will do this today and then monitor the backup and see how it responds to that.

I'll be back....
