I have an IBM 9577 TYPE WHICH AT POST START SCREEN IT IS GIVING THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE :" INSERT REFERENCE DISKETTE AND PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE" I NEED THIS FILE FOR THE CREATION OF THE DISK (76/77REF.EXE) PLEASE ASSIST.

WHAT CAN BE THE PROBLEM ?

Is is asking for a windows startup diskette maybe? What does it do when you press F1?

At the risk of dating myself, old IBM PCs used a reference disk to configure itself. Any additional adapters would come with its own reference disk, whose information would need to be added to the PS/2's configuration before the adapter would be functional.

Apparently "newer" IBM's have a hidden partition that contains the reference information. See:

If you can't access the reference information from the harddrive, then I'm not sure where you can obtain the necessary files to create a diskette version. All links I've found refer to ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/refdisks/ but the refdisks portion appears to no longer exist.
