My Sony 40X12X48 CDRW works fine when looking at data or listening to music, but when trying to make data backups or music cd's I get messages saying: "there are no supported CD-recorders available"; "no CD recorders were found"; "Creator API returns failure"; and when reinstalling the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, a message states, "no supported drives found". My OS is windows XP-Pro. Many thanks to any respondents.

Go to Roxio's site and download the free update for easy cd creator which can be found here
This among other things will update the softwares list of supported drives.
You can also check if you drive is supported by visiting the following link.
