Something is already running on port 80. Did apache fail to shutdown properly? Is http traffic being forwarded to the server's local ip from the router?

When I run service httpd restart it says "stopping httpd [fail] Starting httpd [ok] I guess it isn't shutting down right. Traffic is forwarding to the box from my router when I run tcpdump port 80 I do see Bi-directional traffic from an external host hitting port 80. htis is a brand new box and I installed RH7.3 and have never seen this much info in an httpd.conf file. I don't remeber it having this much info. Thanks for the help

IF its a new install of redhat its probably loading apache at startup.

Do this

telnet localhost 80

then after the connection is made do:

GET / HEAD (two returns)

This will tell you the version of apache running. I think you are already running apache out of the box.

Got it the problem was with the Listen statements I had in the httpd.conf file. Everything appears to be running right now. Thanks for the help
