Hi and help
I moved my database from a Win 2000 machine with Access 2000 to a W98 machine with Access 97 and also to a WXP Machine with Access 2000. Both come up with an error message after starting the database, opening the quotes form and selecting any one the 3 combo boxes.(The form is based on query using 4 tables rather than on a single table)This happens only once, then the form can be used as normal. This is repeated each time I re-open the database. Clicking on help button with error message is a complete non-starter and the message is really informative!!

error message is "function is not avaialable in expressions in table-level validation expression"

Any clues would be appreciated

I would start by looking at the references used by each of the Access apps on all 3 machines. Start with the original on your Win2K, A2K machine. Reach the references from any form/report code window by clicking Tools, References ...

Note the references and their order, then do the same with each of the other machines. If any are missing, add them to the list by scrolling down the list and clicking in their check box.

You can then close the references window and reopen it. The checked references will all be at the top of the list. Just move them into the same order as the original by highlighting the name of the reference and using the up/down arrow keys of Priority.

But note, if your original db was created in 2K and you converted it back to A97, there may be some functionality which was built into the 2K version which does not exist in the A97 version. Of course that wouldn't explain the error coming from the WXP machine. [sad]

If the reference thing doesn't work I would then look at the design modes of the tables and check the validation criteria for the fields.

I have just finished going through the referrences as suggested and added the ones that were missing, including an OCX from MS Common controls, missing from the system32 folder. Copied one in, registerred it and all works fine now.

There's more to this than Cut & Paste.

Thanks once again
